The Amazfit Helio ring has gained stress tracking in a new update
When we posted our full review of the Amazfit Helio smart ring last month, we praised the design yet lamented the lack of meaningful features.
With a new update, though, it appears Zepp Health is looking to rectify the ring’s glaring software problems – starting with stress tracking.
Specifically, the electrodermal activity (EDA) sensor that previously lay dormant will be unlocked to power the feature.
In the update log, the company notes that it will be involved with ‘automatic emotion monitoring’ to help users better understand and manage their mental state, with this data already viewable from the Zepp app on iOS.
We’re used to seeing stress tracking features on smart rings already, of course, including the market-leading Oura Gen 3. However, this represents the first time we’ve seen an EDA sensor used to do so, meaning we’re intrigued to see how it holds up during testing.
With the incoming Samsung Galaxy Ring expected to deliver some kind of mood monitoring, as well, there’s simply never been a better time to be a smart ring owner dealing with stress.
Wareable says:
The Amazfit Helio ring impressed us with its build quality – but its lack of core features left us cold. Its insights were limited to readiness and HRV metrics, and sleep tracking that didn’t stand up to scrutiny.
The addition of stress tracking at least adds an extra utility to the smart ring – but it does lack insights compared to Ultrahuman and Oura. And now it has the Samsung Galaxy Ring on its patch.
